It’s Virgo Season, Baby: Time to Romanticize Order
your September reset—because being an adult doesn't mean you can't "go back to school," too.
Helloooooo from the Eurostar, where I’m headed from Amsterdam to London!
After being in the Netherlands for a few nights for a work trip, I couldn’t be happier to be checking in with you in the midst of getting texts from T-Mobile welcoming me to Belgium, France, and most recently the United Kingdom!!!! On this five-hour train journey, I’m processing all the changes of scenery I’ve seen over the past few days. Going from waking up to views of the Aegean (I just added a bunch of coverage to my Stories/Highlights from Athens and Zakynthos if you missed it!) to opening my curtains to the canals of Amsterdam was SUCH a stark change of pace. From the moment I stepped out of Schiphol, a 55-degree chill and crunchy leaves underfoot greeted me a bit more aggressively than I’d bargained for—and despite my carry-on full of bikinis, the transition from beach back to city life feels fitting.
This shift in the air mirrors the change that comes with Virgo season, which officially began yesterday, August 23rd. With the looming “back to school” energy comes a craving for sharpened pencils, fresh notebooks, and the irresistible pull of a reset—even for those of us long out of traditional classrooms. For me, there’s also a deep urge to seek order after the chaos of summer. I’m seeking the solace that comes from my apartment fridge being filled with produce at home, fresh sheets on my bed, and a closet full of clean clothes. I’m craving my little routines, my usual workout classes, and quality time with friends in dimly lit restaurants.
One of my favorite astrologers, Heidi Rose Robbins, described it best, saying, “…there is a great gift in alchemizing what is mundane into something very sacred. Virgo can choose to see the beautiful and with great care, can bring that beauty to the forefront. This is why I often call a person with strong Virgo…a walking altar. Their adornments are so exquisitely chosen that they bring a kind of peace to anyone who regards them.”
So, as the textbook Virgo I am, today’s edition of The Sunday Series is going to be all about how this astrological season applies to the weeks ahead. Even if you don’t have a single ounce of Virgo in your birth chart (do yours on Co-Star you’re not sure of your sun/rising/moon signs), you’re still swimming in the same cosmic waters. Think of this next month as a collective permission slip to bring a little more order into the chaos—color-coding your calendar, lighting a candle before you open your laptop, finally buying that chic planner that makes you want to sit down and write. Virgo energy is meticulous yet romantic, equal parts practical and poetic. And this month, we all get to lean into that vibe.
I remember such a childlike excitement around back-to-school shopping growing up. New backpacks, a fresh lunchbox, composition notebooks, and the way a Ticonderoga #2 (The World’s Best Pencil®) writes creamy on a sheet of ruled paper after being sharpened by hand…I mean, do you see how happy I was back in 1998 to go to school?? I still feel that way when September rolls around!
Though nowadays, prep to go back to the office post Labor Day looks a bit different. In this moment, it finds me wanting a whole new set of bras and underwear, fresh pointelle socks, cool Euro sneakers, and maybe even a deeper romanticization of getting ready with a new robe and mirror. So, I thought today’s issue would be an opportune time to round up some Virgo-approved purchases, including a few of the things I bought here in Amsterdam this week!
Puraai Panther Stripe-Detail Sneakers | I just purchased my first pair from this Italian vegan leather brand while in Amsterdam, and while I got a different colorway (couldn’t find a link anywhere!) the next pair I’m coveting is this yellow one. Haven’t seen anyone in New York wearing these, which makes them absolutely perfect.
Stems Pointelle Crew Socks | So cutsie and feminine to wear a high pointelle sock with cool sneaks.
COS Cashmere V Neck Cardigan | As noted above, I really wasn’t properly prepared for the temperature, so a trip into COS for a new sweater was much needed. I landed on this olive green V-neck pictured below, and I already know it’s going to be a staple in my fall wardrobe.
Jenny Bird Virgo Zodiac Pendant Necklace | Call me too on the nose, but I adore this necklace for my fellow Virgos!
La Double J Trinket Tray | And while we’re on the note of jewelry, Virgo energy is all about staying organized. This trinket tray would be perfect as a bedside catch-all. At home, I keep my lip balm and eye masks in mine!
Missoni Zigzag Cotton Terry Bathrobe | When I’m envisioning the month ahead, it’s about getting cute and taking our time doing it. A fabulous robe certainly helps, and this one is just chic, chic, chic.
Etoile Collective Portable Mirror | Speaking of getting ready, we need to be in prime lighting to do so. This lighted and lightweight mirror accomplishes that and more so you nail even the most delicate winged eyeliner.
La Bonne Brosse 02 The Small Essential Do It All Brush | You’ll rarely (if ever!) find me leaving the house without a brush…I’ve spoken before about how much I’m obsessed with my full-size La Bonne Brosse, but this mini is essential for on-the-go!
Sania’s Brow Bar Mechanical Brow Pencil | Having immaculately coiffed eyebrows is another big upgrade to everyday life. This tool has changed my beauty routine…I’m never without this pencil, which has an eyebrow brush on one side and an angled applicator on the other.
Jenni Kayne Cashmere Shawl | Virgos do be always getting after THE NEXT THING and a lot of the time, that means traveling. Fewer things are going to make you feel more polished and put together on the road than having a cashmere shawl on your shoulders.
Royce New York Monogrammed Leather Bound Notebook | Recently got this notebook as a gift for someone and they loved it! What could be more back-to-school than a freshie notebook??
Skims Fits Everybody Set of Five Thongs | Le sigh. These are too, too good…like, so good I recently found myself in an elevator with a friend whipping my thong out of my waistband to show her how soft the fabric is.
Fleur du Mal Le Stretch Lace Demi Bra | I’m a big fan of this brand (did you just see Dua Lipa wearing the Lily? one of my faves!) and loving the comfort and price tag of this four-way stretch lace.
Fleur du Mal Rose & Vine Embroidery Bralette | For something even more fun, the motif on this one with roses is super feminine and Virgo-approved!

Morning coffee and journaling sesh: there is no better way to start the day for me than brewing some coffee, mixing in my half and half, and curling up to journal.
Treat your desk with the reverence of an altar: light a candle before opening your laptop, keep a little dish for paperclips, pens that actually spark joy. In my book, there is no occasion needed for taper candles! Lighting these babies instantly makes an ordinary moment feel special.
Drawer edit: re-fold your lingerie drawer or sock bin like it’s a boutique display—Virgo loves when the mundane looks and feels curated.
